The best Metal Earth model for most builders is the Premium Series Millennium Falcon (Color): a 2.75-sheet, 137-piece color kit that Metal Earth rates Moderate, finishing at about 5.6 × 4.2 × 2.6 in. If you have never built one, start with the standard Eiffel Tower; if you want a project that spans several sessions, the Expert-level Hogwarts Castle in Snow is the showpiece.
Below is one pick for each subject: space, military, vehicles, ships, landmarks, wildlife and licensed kits. We show Metal Earth’s own difficulty rating and sheet count wherever Metal Earth or the listing publishes one. Otherwise we show our catalog’s rating or leave the cell blank.
We have not assembled these kits ourselves. Difficulty ratings and sheet counts come from metalearth.com and the product listings, build times come from our catalog, and most picks link to our full review. One thing to know up front: Premium Series does not mean harder.
Our Top Metal Earth Picks at a Glance
The comparison table lists every pick with its series, difficulty, sheets, pieces and built size. The difficulty column shows where each rating comes from:
- Official: Metal Earth’s Premium Series list.
- Listed: the product listing only.
- Our rating: our own catalog, for kits without a confirmed official rating.
Our labels map directly onto Metal Earth’s: Beginner = Easy, Intermediate = Moderate, Advanced = Challenging, Expert = Expert. Metal Earth has no “Advanced” level. If you see a kit described that way elsewhere, it is not an official rating.
Pick this if…
- Millennium Falcon (Color): you want one dependable choice, a substantial color build that stays at Moderate.
- Eiffel Tower: it is your first kit and you want straight lines and a short session.
- Supermarine Spitfire: it is your first kit, but you would rather build a plane.
- Apollo Saturn V with Gantry: you want a tall, narrow space display.
- Apollo Lunar Module: you want a tiny desk model and don’t mind fiddly parts.
- M1 Abrams Tank: you are ready for a second kit with a military subject.
- Kawasaki Ninja: you are a motorcycle fan ready for finer mechanical detail.
- RMS Titanic: you want the most display length here without leaving Moderate.
- Statue of Liberty: this is your second or third build and you want an American landmark in color.
- American Bald Eagle: you want a gift for a nature lover.
- T-Rex Skeleton: you are building for a dinosaur fan or as a family project.
- Hogwarts Castle in Snow: you are an experienced builder who wants the biggest project.

How to Read a Metal Earth Box Before You Buy
Three things on the box tell you most of what you need: the number of sheets, the difficulty icon and whether it says Premium Series.
Sheets
Metal Earth describes its kits as built from etched steel sheets. You free each part from the sheet, push its tabs through slots, then bend or twist them. According to Metal Earth, no glue or solder is needed.
More sheets generally means more parts and more time. Official listings count partial sheets, so 2.5, 2.625 or 2.75 sheets are normal. In the Premium Series alone, counts run from 1 sheet (the Premium Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building) to 4 sheets (Sagrada Familia and Minas Tirith).
The four difficulty levels
Metal Earth rates its kits on four levels. Its guidance, as reproduced by a hobbyist site in 2019, gives rough build times:
- Easy: beginner kits, up to about an hour
- Moderate: up to about two hours
- Challenging: typically 100+ pieces, three hours or more
- Expert: typically 120+ pieces, five hours or more
Treat these as a starting point. A first build usually runs longer while you learn how firmly to twist a tab.
Where the label can mislead
The rating is the maker’s judgment, not a guarantee. Hobbyists advise starting with kits of two sheets or fewer and leaving curved designs and action-figure kits until you have some experience. Rolled parts and rounded forms are harder to get right than flat panels.
Size can mislead too. The Apollo Lunar Module is only about 2.3 in across, yet it packs 61 pieces.
Our metal model kit difficulty guide goes deeper. For technique, see how to build metal model kits.
Standard vs Premium Series: What Actually Changes
On metalearth.com, Premium Series kits carry their own item numbers beginning with ICX or PS. They are often printed in color and spread across more sheets. The Millennium Falcon (Color), Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle and Titanic are typical examples.
Premium is not a difficulty level
Metal Earth’s own Premium list runs the full range:
- Easy: B-2A Spirit (2 sheets) and Willis Tower (1 sheet)
- Moderate: Titanic, Bald Eagle and Millennium Falcon
- Challenging: Statue of Liberty and Doctor Doom
- Expert: Silver Dragon (3 sheets), Terminator T-800, Greek Trireme and Salt Lake Temple
Some ranking pages call the Silver Dragon “Challenging”. Metal Earth rates it Expert.
Same subject, two kits
The Eiffel Tower, X-Wing and R2-D2 each have a separate Premium version, distinct from the standard kit. The Premium Eiffel Tower, for example, is 1 sheet and officially Moderate. Look for the words Premium Series in the title so you know which one you’re getting.
The decision rule
Choose by subject first and difficulty second. Read “Premium” as a hint about color and size, never about how hard the build will be.
Best First Metal Earth Kits
Eiffel Tower
The standard Eiffel Tower is the classic starter, and hobbyists commonly recommend it as a first project. It is a straight-sided lattice tower about 4 in tall, and our catalog puts the build at 1–2 hours.
A separate Premium Eiffel Tower (1 sheet, officially Moderate) also exists, so check which version you’re ordering. Our Eiffel Tower review covers the standard kit.
Supermarine Spitfire
The Supermarine Spitfire is the first kit for anyone who would rather build a plane. Our catalog rates this WWII fighter Beginner, with a 1–2 hour build. The propeller and landing gear add some detail.
It is a small desktop model, suited to a desk or bookshelf rather than a centerpiece. See our Spitfire review.
Why start with straight sides
Flat panels and right angles are forgiving. A crooked tab is easy to spot and easy to correct. Curved hulls, rounded fuselages and figure kits ask you to roll parts evenly, and that is where first builds tend to go wrong.
Skip these if you have already finished a couple of kits. Neither will stretch you; the step-up picks below will. For first kits from other brands, see our best metal model kits for beginners.
Best Metal Earth Space Kits
Apollo Saturn V with Gantry
The Apollo Saturn V with Gantry is our space pick. The listing describes two sheets covering the rocket and its launch tower and rates the kit Moderate. It stands about 5.9 in tall on a footprint of roughly 2 × 1.3 in.
That tall, narrow shape suits slim shelves and reads instantly as a rocket. It suits space fans who want a vertical display. Read our Saturn V review.
Apollo Lunar Module
The Apollo Lunar Module is the desk-size alternative. The listing gives about 2.3 × 2.3 × 2.2 in, two sheets, 61 pieces and a Moderate rating.
That many parts in so small a model means tiny pieces. It suits Apollo fans with steady hands, not someone after shelf presence. See our Apollo Lunar Module review.
Space step-ups
For a bigger project, Metal Earth’s Premium list includes:
- Artemis Moon Rocket: 3.5 sheets, Challenging
- Space Shuttle Launch Kit: 3 sheets, Moderate
- Apollo 11 Astronaut: 2.5 sheets, Challenging
Our best space metal model kits roundup covers these and more.
Best Military and Aircraft Kits
The M1 Abrams Tank is a popular military display subject. Our catalog rates it Intermediate with a 1.5–3 hour build, which makes it a natural second kit after a straight-sided starter. It finishes as a compact desktop model.
Skip it if you want a large shelf piece; the Titanic is the biggest display among our picks. Our M1 Abrams review has the details.
For aircraft, start with the Spitfire above. Metal Earth also makes jets and helicopters, covered in the best metal aircraft and space model kits and the best military aircraft metal model kits.
Best Vehicle Kit
The Premium Series Kawasaki Ninja is an officially licensed replica in color. Our catalog notes fine mechanical parts and a 2–4 hour build. The finished bike is roughly 12 cm (about 4.7 in) long.
Treat it as a step-up, not a first kit. Small parts on a compact motorcycle leave little room for a misaligned tab. It suits motorcycle fans who have finished at least one simpler model. Our Kawasaki Ninja review goes deeper.
Prefer cars? Metal Earth’s Premium Batmobile is 3 sheets and officially Challenging. Classic cars and other vehicles are in our best metal vehicle model kits roundup.
Best Ship Kit
The Premium Series RMS Titanic gives you the most display for its difficulty. Metal Earth lists it at 3 sheets and Moderate. According to the listing, it is 1:928 scale and about 11.4 in long built, the longest model among our picks by a wide margin.
It suits builders with one or two kits behind them who want a real shelf piece. Skip it if your display space is short or shallow; a foot-long hull needs room. To picture what 1:928 means, try our scale calculator.
Metal Earth’s harder ships are all officially Challenging:
- USS Missouri: 3 sheets
- USS Constitution: 2.25 sheets
- USS Nautilus: 3 sheets
- USS Midway: 2 sheets
More ships are in our best metal ship model kits roundup.
Best Landmark Kits
The Premium Series Statue of Liberty is our landmark step-up: a color-printed version of an instantly recognizable American monument that makes a compact desk display.
Metal Earth lists it at 3.5 sheets and Challenging, so it is not a first kit. Plan it as a second or third build, once tabs and shaping feel comfortable. See our Statue of Liberty review.
For an easy landmark, the standard Eiffel Tower remains the starter. The Premium Willis Tower is another gentle option at 1 sheet and officially Easy. At the other end, the Premium Sagrada Familia runs to 4 sheets and the Salt Lake Temple is rated Expert.
More landmarks are in our best metal architecture model kits roundup.
Best Wildlife and Dinosaur Kits
American Bald Eagle
The Premium Series American Bald Eagle is our wildlife pick. It is a 2.5-sheet kit that Metal Earth rates Moderate, with color-printed feather detail that sets it apart from silver-only animal kits.
Our catalog puts the build at 3–5 hours, longer than the Moderate guideline, so plan on more than one evening. Read our Bald Eagle review.
Tyrannosaurus Rex Skeleton
The T-Rex Skeleton is a favorite of Metal Earth’s dinosaur series. It has two steel sheets, rates Intermediate in our catalog and takes about 2–4 hours.
The finished skeleton fits a desk or a kid’s shelf. It suits dinosaur fans and families building together. As a skeleton rather than a flat-sided building, it needs more shaping than a starter landmark. See our T-Rex Skeleton review.
More birds, mammals and prehistoric creatures are in our best metal animal model kits roundup.
Best Licensed Kits: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel
Star Wars: Millennium Falcon (Color)
The Premium Millennium Falcon (Color) is our best overall pick. It has 2.75 sheets and 137 pieces, Metal Earth rates it Moderate, and it builds to about 5.6 × 4.2 × 2.6 in. The listing gives ages 14+.
You get a substantial, colorful model without jumping to Challenging. See our Millennium Falcon review.
Other Premium Star Wars kits:
- Imperial AT-AT: 2.5 sheets, Moderate
- Darth Vader: 2.75 sheets, Challenging
- Razor Crest: 2.625 sheets, Challenging
- N-1 Starfighter: 2.5 sheets, Challenging
The full line-up is in our best Star Wars metal model kits.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Castle in Snow
The Hogwarts Castle in Snow is the showpiece: 4 sheets, 305 pieces, Expert difficulty and about 6.65 × 5.08 × 4.5 in built. Listing photos show bronze-toned walls under white snow roofs.
It is the biggest Metal Earth project we track and a strong gift for an experienced Harry Potter fan. It is a poor first kit. Read our Hogwarts Castle review, and compare it with the largest 3D metal puzzles.
Lighter Harry Potter options include Hedwig (2.5 sheets) and the Hungarian Horntail (3 sheets), both Challenging. More are in our best Harry Potter metal model kits.
Marvel: Doctor Doom
The Premium Doctor Doom is a 3-sheet, 83-piece figure that Metal Earth rates Challenging. It stands about 6.5 in tall.
Figure kits are where the label most often understates the job, so this one suits Marvel fans with a few builds behind them. More are in our best Marvel metal model kits.
Gift and Teen Picks
Several Metal Earth listings we track give a minimum age of 14+, including the Millennium Falcon (Color) and the Eiffel Tower. Parts are small and freshly cut tabs can be sharp, so younger builders need an adult close by. Our guide to metal model kits for kids covers safety in detail.
For a teen new to the hobby, the Spitfire (1–2 hours in our catalog) or T-Rex Skeleton (2–4 hours) is a sensible choice. Both subjects appeal right away.
For an adult gift, match the subject to the person and the difficulty to their experience. The Bald Eagle and Millennium Falcon are safe Moderate choices. Save the Hogwarts Castle for someone who already builds. More ideas by recipient are in our metal model kit gift guide.
Is Metal Earth Any Good? Our Honest Take
For what it sets out to do, yes. Metal Earth, a brand from Fascinations, makes quick, glue-free kits across a very wide range of subjects and licenses.
What works
- No glue or solder: tabs go through slots and twist to lock.
- Quick to start: an Easy or Moderate kit fits into an evening or two.
- A huge range, from landmarks and wildlife to Star Wars, Harry Potter and Marvel.
- Compact finished models that suit a desk or bookshelf.
What to know first
- Parts are tiny, and fine detail needs pointed pliers and good light.
- Tabs can weaken or snap if bent back and forth repeatedly, so a mistake is not always reversible. Our repair guide helps when one breaks.
- Most models finish small, often a few inches tall, next to larger multi-sheet designs from other brands.
When another brand fits better
Want bigger models with higher piece counts? Look at Piececool, which often prints in color. Want something that actually moves? Look at mechanical kits.

Tools You’ll Want
You can start a Metal Earth kit with very little, but a few tools make the build cleaner:
- Fine-tip or needle-nose pliers for twisting tabs and bending small parts.
- Flush cutters to free parts from the sheet without leaving burrs.
- Tweezers for placing the smallest pieces.
- Something round, such as a dowel, pen or drill bit, to roll curved parts evenly.
Our best tools for building metal model kits compares complete sets. For two popular options, see the AHIER tool kit review and the Honoson tool set review.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest Metal Earth model to start with?
Choose an Easy or Moderate kit with two sheets or fewer and mostly straight lines. The standard Eiffel Tower and the Supermarine Spitfire are both rated Beginner in our catalog and take about 1–2 hours. Leave curved hulls and figure kits for later.
Are Premium Series kits harder than standard Metal Earth kits?
Not necessarily. Metal Earth’s Premium list runs from Easy kits such as the B-2A Spirit and Willis Tower to Expert kits such as the Silver Dragon. Premium usually signals color and more sheets, so check the difficulty icon, not the series name.
How long does a Metal Earth model take to build?
Metal Earth’s guidance, as reproduced by hobbyists, puts Easy kits at up to about an hour, Moderate at up to two, Challenging at three or more and Expert at five or more. A first build usually takes longer while you get used to the tabs.
Do Metal Earth kits need glue or soldering?
No. According to Metal Earth, the parts join with a tabs-and-holes design: you push each tab through its slot and bend or twist it to lock.
What does ‘2.5 sheets’ mean on a Metal Earth box?
It is the number of etched steel sheets the parts come on, and official listings count partial sheets. More sheets generally means more parts and a longer build.
Are Metal Earth kits OK for kids?
Several listings we track state ages 14+. Small parts and sharp tabs mean younger builders need close adult help. Our parent’s guide to metal model kits covers the safety side in more detail.
