The scales vary widely, from 1:80 for the Huey to 1:189 for the SR-71, so these models are not directly comparable in size. Most finish between about 5.5 and 7.8 inches, which makes them good shelf or desk pieces.

Wings, rotors and small parts

Thin wings, tail fins, landing gear and rotor blades are the fiddly parts on aircraft kits. The listings recommend tweezers for bending tabs, and a forming tool or a pen barrel helps shape curved fuselages. See our tools roundup.

What we could not verify

The UH-60 Black Hawk listing gives no sheet count, scale, difficulty or assembled size, and its two dimension fields disagree. The F/A-18’s piece count (146) appears only in one structured field and is about double the other three-sheet jets, so we have not used it; its listing also gives no assembled size. The V-22 also has no assembled size in its bullets. The F-14 and F/A-18 difficulty labels come from a secondary field, not the bullet points. None of these listings publish a build time.
