Metal Earth’s metal model car kits cover American classics from the Model T to the muscle-car era, plus a Premium Series Batmobile. This roundup compares the car kits people search for most, using the sheets, pieces, scale, difficulty and assembled size published on each Amazon listing. We have not assembled these kits, so treat build notes as estimates and check the current listing before buying.

How we chose

  • The cars people search for: Bel Air, Impala, Camaro, GTO, Mustang and the Batmobile.
  • A mix of eras and body styles: 1920s runabout, 1950s cruiser, 1960s muscle, a pickup.
  • Published specs only: where a listing leaves something out or disagrees with itself, we say so.

Most of these cars finish between about 3 and 4.6 inches long, so they are desk-scale models rather than large display pieces. The Batmobile is the exception. Scales also vary from 1:42 to 1:49, so two cars side by side will not be at exactly the same scale.

How to choose

  • A first car kit: the 1965 Mustang uses the fewest sheets (two) and is rated moderate.
  • The most detail at moderate difficulty: the 1967 Impala lists the most pieces of the moderate-rated cars.
  • A muscle-car shelf: the Camaro Z/28 and GTO Judge are both 3.5-sheet, moderate-rated kits at similar scales (1:42 and 1:43).
  • A bigger challenge: the Batmobile, Bel Air and Model T are all rated challenging.
  • Something different: the 1982 F-150 is the only pickup here.

Small cars, small parts

At 3 to 6 inches long, these cars fit wheels, bumpers and trim into a small space, so expect small parts. The listings recommend tweezers for bending tabs; a pair of fine flush cutters and good light help too. See our tools roundup.

What we could not verify

The Camaro listing gives 121 pieces in its bullet points and 122 in other fields. The Mustang’s 50-piece figure appears only in one structured field, and several of its fields look unreliable, so we have not used it. The Model T lists 2.25 sheets in its bullets and 2 sheets elsewhere. The Batmobile and Mustang listings do not state a scale. None of these listings publish a build time.
